Kelli Makes Tortillas

Kelli's Grandma got her a Kelli-sized baking kit - including rolling pin and apron - at Thanksgiving (so she could help make pies for Christmas). Unfortunately, the kit had traveled south w/Grandma and Kelli recently started missing it (probably because Don and I have been cooking a lot lately). Anyways, Grandma surprised Kelli by mailing her the rolling pin and apron and Kelli celebrated getting it back by making tortillas with Daddy.

The chefs are ready to go!
I've got my rolling pin!

And we're off!

I like rolling out tortillas!
Look what I made!Time to enjoy the fruit of my labors!

Magic Show Prep

Inspired by another Mickey Mouse Clubhouse episode, Kelli decided to put on a magic show today. Since Goofy uses a suitcase as a stand to perform his tricks, she needed to set up on her suitcase before she could perform.

Setting up all the animals for the show took awhile.
After giving stern instructions to the rabbit, the stacking began . . .

We have a tower!

Every magician has to have a hat to pull the rabbit out of - finding a "good" hat took awhile. Kelli declared this one too big for her to use in the show . . .
though it seemed to fit her fairly well ;).

Magic Show Performance

Having dismissed the balancing act, she moved on to the main part of the show - pulling a rabbit out of a hat.
Nothing in the hat . . .

say the magic words and . . .
What's under there?

I made a bunny!Hop, bunny, hop!

Kelli Makes Tortillas - Part Two

Having mastered rolling out tortillas, Kelli then moved on to the tortilla press.

Stage One: Discovery & Examination

Hmm, how does this thing work?
Okay, got that panel out - now what does this piece do?

Ah, it lifts up
Daddy! I got it open - now what?

Stage Two: Learning to Press

Dough's in position . . .
First Kelli and Daddy press together . . .

then Kelli presses her first solo tortilla!

It worked!

Magic Show Finale

While the brown bunny seen above did feature in Kelli's magic show, the biggest star in the show was the invisible rabbit she pulled out of her hat. After setting the invisible rabbit on the floor, she used her magic wand to make it hop :).

My Favorite Pic from Tortilla Night

I love this pic - it's so sweet!

Of Bandaids and Tags

While putting away laundry, Kelli found a shirt that she wanted to wear, which was fine by me. However, in order to get dressed she had to take her "jamas" off and when she did so we discovered that the cuff of her pajama top was too tight and had left a red mark on her wrist (the same kind produced by carrying heavy plastic grocery bags on your arm). Having discovered the "injury" (which she refused to let me take a picture of), everything else had to be put on hold until she got the bandaid from her doctor's kit to "fix" it. Once she had the "fixed" her owie, she went to put her shirt on and discovered that the plastic string-thing that had once held the price tag etc was still attached, so she had to get her safety scissors to cut it off. She tried several differents angles before finally letting me help her - those things can be tricky to cut!

After (finally) getting the shirt on she realized that the mark on her wrist wasn't gone yet, so had to put the bandaid back on.

Bandaged and ready to roll. Having gotten the doctor kit out, she then proceeded to give everyone and everything in the vicinity a check-up (Mommy, Alyce, the pictures on a box of books, etc). The bandaid was removed about ten seconds after this picture was taken, by which time the "injury" was completely healed - I want a bandaid that works that fast!

Alyce the Amazing Hand-Eater

Having recently discovered her hands, Alyce now seems determined to fit her entire fist into her mouth - and I'm starting to think she may succeed!

Wanna see me do a trick?

Just an ordinary hand . . .

We start with the thumb . . .

Open wide . . .

and start shoving in the fist!

I'll get it one of these days - and I'll fight anyone who says otherwise!

Kelli Puts Away Her Laundry

Now that I finally put the second rod in Kelli's closet she can reach her shirts all by herself. This really came in handy today as she demonstrated that she can put her clothes away by herself ("Big Girl").

Opening the closet door took some effort . . .

but it was smooth sailing after that: Make a space

Put the shirt on the rod

TA-DAA!

Kelli also demonstrated that she can carry two shirts at the same time because she "has two hands." ;)

Laundy Buddies

Today when I was sorting and folding clothes, I sat Alyce in the basket so she could watch. She was a little unsure about it at first . . .

But soon warmed to the idea
Kelli decided this looked like fun and asked to get in too - and hold Alyce. This let me get some adorable shots of the two of them.
After I got these two shots, Alyce started to fall over a little.

So Kelli - the ever-helpful big sister - helped steady her.

Then we tried a slightly different hold.Kelli really loves her little sister - and posing for the camera!

Alyce started fussing at the end of the shoot, so Kelli - who was enjoying posing for the camera and hates hearing Alyce cry - tried to soothe her.

Mommy and Daddy fix Alyce this way - I'm sure if I concentrate I can do it too.

Look Mommy - it's working!
